Art-Club

What a night it was! Walking in the rain with snow around 10pm from Sheepshead Bay subway station to the Art Club "Svoi Lyudi" (one's own folks) - I just could not stop thinking why the heck have I agreed to such a torture! The cold wind, the humidity from the nearby river (canal? ocean? - it was too dark to see and too cold to care) - all of this did not augur much fun. The Armenian cafe, the Turkish Restaurant, the New Cats Cafe and here it was - the Art Club and a billiard room with a spooky name in almost French: "Mon (sic!) Mademoiselle".
The tickets of course were all sold out, there might have been some standing room, so after 35 bucks a head, we were in a small room, beautifully designed, fully packed by a crowd, whose average age was north of 50. The ticket price included unlimited alcohol, food, desserts, tea, coffee or whatever is in that little kitchen/bar. We perched right next to the kitchen, to be closer to food and booze. At first, the three lovely girls behind the counter were not very happy about my blocking the entrance, but once complimented, were fine with that. One of them, after one of my compliments, re-adjusted her tits and smiled encouragingly at me - though she was in her late 40s.
Standing at the entrance brought eventually its bad sides, the most intolerable of which was a burly guy who hadn't washed at least three days and his shirt had a long way since its last laundry. Every time he had to "squeeze" himself past me into the kitchen, I had to hold my breath as long as I could and move myself to avoid any contact with that incredible hulk...
And then the jazz began (literally). The former members of the famous Soviet jazz group Allegro were playing absolutely fantastic music! It is impossible to even try to relate the superb crafsmanship of these people - so, just go there. Here is the web site . Some of these people will be playing again this coming Thursday January 19.
