Cartoons and violence
And we didn't believe 'em when they said the cartoons lead to violence. But here we are, evacuating ourselves from the angry mobs, losing buildings to crowds with torches, all because of what?
My diagnosis is very simple: unemployment + no credit + no shopping malls. Nothing pacifies a citizen like a good stroll in a mall with a credit card itching to be swiped. There are definitely those who organize those picnics, since it does take a lot of money and effort to bring that many people in front of the cameras, to give out the placards and to guide them to the right embassy.
They don't have the Internet, so how could they find out where the Danish Embassy is? Have they ever heard of letters to the Editor? Standing in line or in a crowd in front of the embassy does not help get your voice heard. No, so the evil and poison all come from a small handful of imams who incite people to join the celebrations.
I also bet a 1000 bucks that each and every member of the crowd would gladly accept Danish visa or residence if offered. I would not be surprised if their cafe would stop serving Danishes from now on :)
