What I find moving in this article is not only that Mr. Van Loo has overcome his handicap and has managed to learn several languages - it is also his perserverance in making beaurocracy (indigeneously hostile to everybody who doesn't fit the pattern) take him on as a detective and proving to them that he was invaluable, thus breaking the stale mould in their perception of the world :)
